Halifax, NS – Canada
A lively city with lots of nice small houses, all lined up between harbour and public parks.
I’m feeling somewhat comfortable here
I met some 80 year old guy from Liverpool at Tim Hortons. He started a conversation and told me that he came to Canada in 1967 to work at the Expo 67 and after that, he just stayed. Soon, he left Montréal because “it gets so damn cold in the winter that everything freezes up” and opted for Halifax for this city being a nice place and having excellent doctors. He declared that shortly after his retirement, he started working again, since sitting around doing nothing “just drives you nuts”. He would then volunteer at several facilities doing child care and helping homeless people. Up to a stroke, that hit him last year. But still!
Montréal, QC – Canada
Leaving tomorrow! Some further impressions – straight out of retro camera/smartphone.
Café des 2 Moulins, Montmartre, Paris – France
While visiting Paris for the third time, I finally went to discover some of the locations shown in one of my favourite movies, Le fabuleux destin d’Amélie Poulain. Had to realize that none of them carries a special atmosphere… rather they would just sell “Fabuleux Crème Brulée” or “Amélie’s Whatever” and decorate the interior with kitsch and trash. Well, if I want to continue dreaming of the city Amélie lives in, I have to give the movie another watch
Jardin Villemin – Paris, France
Had to travel to Paris last week for work and it was obvious to stay there for the weekend as well. While having the most beautiful weather, we enjoyed watching people enjoying their sunday afternoon
Venice, Italy
Too bad that most of the buildings and houses in Venice look like this, and on top of that a lot of them seem to be abandonded for a long time. But nevertheless, the resulting atmosphere and flair Venice offers to visitors like me is something that seems to complete the impression you get while walking the streets and bridges of this decayed, but still extraordinary place. I really hope the city of Venice will last for another while yet
Venice, Italy
This guy apparently went shopping at Al Duca D’Aosta – as for us, we rather spent money on ice cream.
… mit Sahne, versteht sich
