Northern Lights @Lake Minnewanka, Banff National Park, Alberta – Canada
One of my biggest wishes for my time in Canada was to be lucky to see the Aurora Borealis, but never thought that it will be possible to witness them around here, rather further north. Thanks again to my friends Kat and Dominik to call me and suggest to drive out to Lake Minnewanka last Thursday’s night!
I am so stoked!
I was so curious which part of the show you can actually see with the naked eye, and what will only be captured by the camera’s long exposure time. And I thought that I might not be able to capture anything with my good old EOS 350D, not having brought my tripod from Germany – and neither a remote. So 30 seconds exposure time was the maximum that I could do, the camera sitting on my van and how amazed was I to see, that I could actually capture it! Kinda blurry and at weird angles, but yeah!
With the naked eye, one could see all the green lights, the vertical stripes, and even a bit of the red and purple glow – so amazing. I was standing there with tears in my eyes, it was just marvelous. I hope I will see them again up here!
Icefields Parkway, on the way to Jasper, Alberta – Canada
I’m sorry, guys – I didn’t post any picture for such a long time… so many things to do, so much to see around here collecting memories each and every day. This picture should be a foretaste for the upcoming series, including pictures of Canmore (my winter habitat ), ice climbing, hiking local peaks, and more impressions of the icefields parkway and its glaciers.
Moose on Skyline Trail, Cape Breton Island, NS – Canada
Happy Birthday, D.!
This one is dedicated to you
Went on my first hike on Cape Breton Island today, and already encountered a moose!
Quite a big fellow, blocked the trail for half an hour and then went back to the forest. Gorgeous moments… keep your distance!
Unfortunately, the photo turned out slightly blurry due to shaking hands let’s see if I get a second chance tomorrow.
Sunset behind Cap à l’Orignal, Parc National du Bic, QC – Canada
… and a more cliché picture following right away. Shortly before this one, the sky was all red and orange.
Marvelous moments!

An early morning bus ride with very sleepy eyes… and all of a sudden, flying islands outside! … but the reflections on the window pane add for some touch of reality
